Working at HSSMI | Meet New Starter Joel Dsouza
/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Emily Laver
In October 2022, HSSMI welcomed Joel Dsouza as an addition to our Manufacturing Strategy team. Joel has a Master’s in Engineering Business Management and a background in aerospace and aircraft engine design. He is looking forward to further developing these skills with his work at HSSMI.
Why did you decide to join HSSMI?
JD: Having just completed a master’s, I felt HSSMI was a great place for me to use my past experiences in ways that would be most fruitful; through applying my educational knowledge in various projects and thus contributing towards achieving net-zero in a variety of industries. Working with HSSMI would also offer opportunities for diversification of my skills and knowledge across a wide range of industries.
How has HSSMI and your team supported your development?
JD: From the beginning I have been involved in projects and have been given real responsibility. I was also provided with opportunities to train and develop knowledge and skills wherever needed. The company culture is very friendly, approachable, and helpful which is a great benefit especially for someone early in their career. I have felt a growth in the last couple of months both in my professional and personal life as a result, and I always know I can seek support if and when needed.
What do you appreciate most about working at HSSMI?
JD: To me, it’s the vast exposure to different types of projects and industries. I have already been involved in aerospace, automotive and some research projects relating to the energy sector. All of these have so much to offer and learn. This also leads to work being enjoyable with occasions to learn new things everyday and work on a large variety and scale while contributing towards net-zero regardless of the industry. I have also got chances to develop my manufacturing engineering, logistics and supply chain and even business strategy and development skills all in the context of net-zero which I find very interesting and exciting.
What are your expectations from working at HSSMI?
JD: As a graduate engineer I really look forward to HSSMI helping me in the advancement of my career. I expect to work in various industries which will develop me personally and professionally during my time here. This is through the work I do and the interactions I have especially with clients, which will also help me grow my professional network. I would also like to heavily contribute and aid company growth and achieve the targets it has set for itself.
How will working at HSSMI help your career?
JD: HSSMI has a lot to offer, especially through the extensive range of projects. I believe this will really improve my technical skillset, but also develop my soft skills. Also, the employees at the company have a wide variety of backgrounds, making engagement and collaboration with them valuable and fun. I feel this will give me a holistic development for my career and really make the most of the skills I already possess.
