Working at HSSMI | Meet New Starter Abdul Razzak
In October 2021, Abdul Razzak joined HSSMI’s Manufacturing Strategy team from one of our key clients – Jaguar Land Rover. Abdul first crossed paths with the HSSMI team on a project we were doing to support Jaguar Land Rover. He followed HSSMI on LinkedIn, learned about the different projects we do to support manufacturers in achieving net zero, and was soon keen to become part of the team. He saw a job vacancy on LinkedIn one day, applied, and the rest – as they say – is history. At HSSMI, Abdul has quickly advanced by using his technical knowledge to support both established companies and exciting new start-ups.
HSSMI’s Marketing and Communications Officer Zane Mezdreija sat down with Abdul to chat about his experience at HSSMI.
ZM: Why did you decide to join HSSMI?
AR: I first heard of HSSMI whilst at Jaguar Land Rover. The team at HSSMI were supporting a project within our Manufacturing area which piqued my interest. I therefore did a little research into the company and found it to be quite interesting. The different projects HSSMI was supporting, along with the ethos of sustainable manufacturing, really made me want to join such a special group.
Having followed the company on LinkedIn for some time, a role that suited my expertise popped up. I duly applied and within 2 weeks I was saying goodbye to Jaguar Land Rover and starting my new role at HSSMI. The main reasons for joining were to expand my knowledge, work on new and upcoming projects and technologies but also HSSMI’s culture and the ethos they displayed to me during the recruitment process. I was sold!
ZM: How has HSSMI and your team supported your development?
AR: From day one I have been put straight to work, supporting some exciting new projects with some interesting start-ups. The role is similar to what I was doing in my previous role, but I have manged to grow rather quickly within this organisation. Having successfully completed the first few months of my role, I was awarded with a promotion! The team have been fantastic, the team spirit is great, and we all work as one to achieve a common goal. My personal development is something that is vital to my career aspirations and I am able to have regular 1:1s with my manager.
ZM: What do you appreciate most about working at HSSMI?
AR: I am able to pull on expertise from across the business to meet our clients’ demands to the highest standards. We don’t work in silos here; we work collaboratively as one team.
ZM: What are your expectations from working at HSSMI?
AR: My expectation of working at HSSMI is to continue to help develop the company into a global leader in all things manufacturing, bringing in core knowledge to help us pave a way for the future of sustainable manufacturing.
ZM: How has working at HSSMI helped your career?
AR: Career development is a great plus. As the organisation is small, in contrast to many larger organisations, individuals are able to work on a variety of exciting projects, gaining a vast amount of knowledge and experience. You are also able to showcase your skills to a wider audience, including potential clients but also directors within the company. With a relatively flat structure, I feel everyone within the organisation is approachable and that opportunities arise due to this.
