Working at HSSMI | Meet New Starter Joshua Koch
/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Zane Mezdreija
Joshua Koch joined HSSMI’s Circular Economy team in April 2021. A recent graduate of The University of Manchester, where he obtained an MEng in Chemical Engineering, and with prior experience in process engineering and sustainability, Joshua first undertook an internship at HSSMI and was subsequently promoted to Engineer at the end of 2021. He has become an invaluable part of the HSSMI team, thanks to his passion for circular economy and interest in helping manufacturers improve their environmental footprint and become more sustainable.
HSSMI’s Marketing and Communications Officer Zane Mezdreija sat down with Joshua to chat about his experience at HSSMI.
ZM: Why did you decide to join HSSMI?
JK: I first encountered HSSMI through their affiliation with the Circular Economy Club. As someone with previous experience working for a consultancy focused on transitioning industry to circular economy, it was my first point of call. I then browsed the website and was glad to see some case studies of work focussing on sustainability. I saw examples of research projects and I really liked the idea of being at the forefront of industry and leading the way with novel and creative solutions as the UK transitions to net zero.
ZM: How has HSSMI and your team supported your development?
JK: From very early on during my time at HSSMI, I have had people within my own team and the wider HSSMI team take an interest in my personal development. This has given me practical advice and resources that will help me to thrive and grow at HSSMI and beyond.
ZM: What do you appreciate most about working at HSSMI?
JK: There are two things I really appreciate about HSSMI. Number one is quite simply the people. HSSMI is made up of people with rich diversity and backgrounds. I have had the privilege of working with and learning from people with a wealth of experience in a variety of different fields. Number two is the focus of HSSMI. As we focus on helping manufacturers transition to net zero, the projects that I get to work on are meaningful and exciting.
ZM: What are your expectations from working at HSSMI?
JK: My expectations from HSSMI are for us to remain at the forefront of our targeted industries by constantly gaining new knowledge and applying it to commercial customers and in research projects. I expect us to continue to work towards our goals of helping manufacturers reach net zero.
ZM: How can working at HSSMI help your career?
JK: So far, I have enjoyed the corporate training. I would love the opportunity to have more training with HSSMI, technical and more skills based. It is also a great place to build relationships with people from a range of different industries and continue to grow a professional network.
